Fujitsu, Others to Employ Physical AI From Nvidia Technology

AI Summary

Fujitsu, the Japanese communications company,ย is spearheading a significant effort in artificial intelligence by employing Physical AI from Nvidia technology, combining the manufacturing prowess in robotics of Japanย with AI, which is theย best of both.

Theย field of technology knownย as Physical AI is allย about intelligent, futuristic-looking robots that are capable of thinking for themselves, not just taking programmed instructions, so they can work comfortably alongside humans in workplaces and residences as well as hospitals.

The Chief Executive of Nvidia Corp.,ย Jensen Huang, and Fujitsu Chief Executive Takahito Tokita jointly unveiled the initiative in Tokyo on July 16, 2026, along with the CEOs from theย leading industrial robot makers of Japan –ย Fanuc Corp., Yaskawa Electric Corp. as well as Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

Thisย new announcement follows a deal between Nvidia and Fujitsu made public in 2025.

The executives said they were hopeful the robots would help alleviate the acute labor shortage of the nation.ย  It is well to be noted that Japan is one of the fastest aging populations in developed nations, and the smart robots might assist in providing care for elderly people living alone, they added.

Huang said Japan is an ideal candidate for physical AI given its track record for quality production since robots that are capable of moving on their own can be dangerous.

He added that โ€œJapanโ€™s excellence is a philosophy, a way of life. โ€˜Made in Japanโ€™ means the highest quality, the highest precision. Japan sets the standard for the state-of-the-art in modern manufacturing.โ€

Huang mentioned Japanโ€™s renowned ideas in quality manufacturing, such as kaizen,ย meaning continuous enhancement.

Notably, theย companies did not provide a timelineย for when such robots would be used in daily life. They said work was already in progress with what they termed the first stage of the joint effort later in 2026.

They said no decision has been made to form a joint venture, though that might come eventually.

Japan admitted it has fallen behind some countries, such as China and the U.S., in AI and remains eager to catch up.

Sanae Takaichi, the Prime Minister of Japan’sย cabinet, recently unveiled a plan to attract over 370 trillion yen, orย $2.3 trillion,ย in public and private investment in different technological areas involving Physical AI from Nvidia technology, semiconductors, and data processing centers by 2040.

Nvidia, which is based in Silicon Valley, has an open-source technology and has been proactive in making multiple ties in Japan, such as with major banks, Toyota Motor Corp., video game manufacturer Sega, and alsoย Riken, the national research institute.
